Launch Data & System Settings Dashboard📋 Overview
The Data & System Settings module acts as the control center for Rake's local-first architecture. It provides the tools you need to manage backups, migrate data between devices, and maintain database health.
📤 Export a System Backup
Navigate to Settings and click "Export Backup". Rake compiles every table within your IndexedDB instance into a single .rake backup file. Your browser saves the file locally with a distinct timestamp tag.
📤 Transfer a System Backup
⚠️ Browser Compatibility: If your browser (e.g. desktop Firefox) does not support native file sharing, the system will automatically fall back to securely downloading the backup file directly to your device.
📥 Import a System Backup
Click "Import Backup". Select a previously exported Rake (.rake) backup file from your local machine. Warning: The import process completely overwrites your current local database state. Confirm the action to restore your data.
⚠️ Reset the Application
Click the destructive Reset System action button. Type the confirmation phrase into the security prompt.
⚠️ Warning: This action is irreversible. The application purges all local IndexedDB tables, wiping all data and returning the app to an uninitialized state. Always export a backup first!
💾 Lock Your Data (Browser Cleanup Protection)
Web browsers sometimes delete offline website files to free up space, or if they have not been opened in 14 days. To protect your invoices, clients, and time logs from being deleted, Rake automatically requests permission to lock its database. If your browser denies this permission (common in mobile Safari), you can bypass this limitation entirely by adding Rake to your Home Screen: tap the Share icon, select "Add to Home Screen", and then open Rake from your Home Screen.
🔗 System Interrelationships
This utility handles database maintenance for the entire platform. The backup .rake file contains snapshots of every single module, meaning a single export preserves all configurations, history, and records. This gives you complete data portability and total ownership over your business information.
